How to Spend 24 Hours in Wrightsville Beach

by Brian Klais

Twenty-four hours is not near enough time to spend in the charming and beautiful town of Wrightsville Beach, but if that’s all the time you have, we can help you make the most of it. If you enjoy white sandy beaches, lighthouses, and pristine coastal water, you’re going to love Wrightsville Beach.

There is so much to do and see, from shopping in quaint little boutiques to fine dining, visiting historical sites, and soaking up the natural beauty of the North Carolina shoreline. Indeed, you’ll feel like you just found paradise. There are many great choices for accommodations, from cute little B&Bs to fine hotels. Wrightsville Beach is a small, charming, fashionable, island community that you’ll never forget.

What to See

Start your day by watching the sunrise. Park at Jack Parker Beach and take in the stunning display of Mother Nature’s colors while you search for Masonboro Island off in the distance. In fact, if you’re a sea lover, why not take in the view while you’re sailing? You can take a sailing lesson or just a little cruise. There are plenty of options down in the marina.

Next, head to historic Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. It’s world-famous because, at a height of 210 feet, it’s America’s tallest lighthouse made of bricks. Climb the 248 steps to the top where the view of the Atlantic Ocean below is breathtaking. Have your camera ready because you’re going to need it.

Where to Eat

If you want a fine dining experience, we recommend Blockade Runner, The Bridge Tender, or Jerry’s Wine, Food and Spirits on Wrightsville Avenue. Jerry’s is best known for creating decadent dishes for Vice President Al Gore and a bunch of other A-list celebrities. For something a little more casual, go to Ceviche’s or The Trolly Stop on Lumina Avenue. Both have delicious American-style food and outstanding service.

Where to Shop

There are so many charming little ma-and-pa style boutique shops to check out, so it really just depends on your interests. If it’s souvenirs that you’re after, go to Hallelu and The Workshop on Waynick Blvd. They have the best in quality treasures that will help you remember your trip to Wrightsville Beach forever. Redix is a great place to shop for trendy men’s clothing and sportswear. There are also lots of great antique shops, upscale consignment clothing stores, bookstores, and art galleries to wander through at your leisure.

Wrightsville Beach is an incredible little resort town that will leave a lasting impression on you. It’s known for being rich in culture and having a fascinating history. The restaurants, shopping experience, art galleries, and outdoor recreation opportunities will leave you wishing you had a lot more than 24 hours to explore it.You can bike, hike, paddle, cruise, or walk along the beachfront and take in the area’s unique, natural beauty. Have your camera or smartphone charged and ready so you can capture those once-in-a-lifetime photos. One word of caution: The delightful weather, delicious dining options, and remarkable landscape may make you want to never leave!
